About this deal

Chocolate Orange Toblerone (optional): Yes, they’re gluten-free in the UK so celebrate that fact by baking this! Again, because of the dairy required in the caramel and the fact that this uses Toblerone, this isn’t an easy one to make vegan. Follow the recipe and once you’ve successfully rolled up your sponge, it’s simply a matter of making the icing – both of which are a doddle. I changed the icing recipe for this - the new one is sooo much more chocolatey, indulgent and needs less ingredients.

Then, the filling is a wonderful, creamy mixture, sweet with that unmistakable taste of chocolate orange Toblerone – after all, it’s melted into it! Itcan be a bit of a mission, but just make sure you don’t leave any dry mixture at the bottom of the bowl and you should be fine. Using your baking paper, roll the sponge up from the short end – the paper should be inside it as you roll. When I say ‘gluten-free plain or self-raising flour’ in a recipe, I mean a BLEND of gluten-free flours, not just one, singular flour. Spread it out gently to make sure it’s nice and even and bake in the oven for 10–12 minutes until cooked through.Dark chocolate:Don’t worry, once you mix this with the butter and icing sugar, the buttercream doesn’t taste especially ‘dark’ at all. Use dairy-free hard margarine (like a Stork baking block) instead of butter for the icing – do NOT use margarine like you’d spread on toast for icing.

Omit the chocolate orange buttons and chocolate orange Toblerone – most dairy-free alternatives end up using potentially high FODMAP ingredients like soya. But I’ve thrown in some tips here that will be really helpful if this is your first time making this, or you want to adapt it. Once you’ve nailed this recipe, you can use it to make Swiss rolls and change up the flavour combos however you like.

The buttercream is rich and chocolatey, creating that perfect swirl that you just NEVER find on the shelves of the free from aisle in supermarkets.

I can guarantee that if you try and bake this in the oven, you’ll just end up with a big mess to clear up ? So this recipe might be best attempted once the elimination phase of the diet is over and you’ve successfully reintroduced lactose/dairy products.

Gluten-free chocolate orange swiss roll recipe - SUPER EASY to make and you'd never know it was Coeliac-friendly and wheat-free too. You should also note that the picture images show only our serving suggestions of how to prepare your food - all table accessories and additional items and/or ingredients pictured with the product you are purchasing are not included. If you’re in a bit of a pinch and don’t have a swiss roll tin, you can easily use a baking tray instead as long as it’s roughly the same size and sides aren’t too low. I personally prefer to use an electric whisk for the cake batter as it only involves short periods of mixing.
