About this deal

HDR features are always enabled for the local apps on Toshiba TVs. Because of this, the TVs adjust picture settings naturally once you start to play HDR content. However, you may need to change the picture mode to Movie, just like for SDR content. You have got the right to access the contents of your personal data, the right to rectification of your personal data, the right to data portability, the right to restriction of data processing, and the right to object to the processing of your personal data.

The 50UK3163DB is impressively easy to use. Its onscreen interface is compact and logical, and does a better job of combining access to content sources and the TV’s set up options than many supposedly much more sophisticated systems.

While the 50UK3163DB isn’t anything special when it comes to handling dark images, it sure stands out with the intensity it brings to both bright parts of dark scenes, and full-screen bright HDR content. In fact, when it comes to the bright end of the light spectrum, it delivers arguably the most aggressive HDR performance in its class. The 55UL5A63DB’s Game mode puts in a fine performance, with latency measured at 26ms. Toshiba 55UL5A63DB setup– Picture settings require a lot of tweaking out of the box The most intriguing feature is the Alexa integration, which could prove to be the UL5A’s MVP alongside Dolby Vision. Called Toshiba Connect, it allows for interaction with the Alexa interface built into the system’s core. For audio devices you should use the Audio Link option via the following menu options on the TV: System > Sound Menu. For remote controllers, use the following: System > Options > More > Smart Remote. Select the menu option on your remote, and press ‘OK’ to open the related menu. This isn’t “Works with Alexa”, which requires an external speaker – although it does need an external receiver to work. Hook up the Toshiba Connect to a USB port and it performs like any other Alexa device, with the Alexa logo popping up on the screen when she’s in use.

Providing personal data is voluntary but at the same time necessary for the fulfillment of purposes of processing. If you will like to enable the interpolation settings, you can alter Motion Processing to what you like. We preferred working with the “Smooth” option however, you should adjust the setting based on your preference. Gaming The 50UK3163DB’s taste for spectacle is let down somewhat by its colour handling. The screen just doesn’t seem able to support a wide enough colour gamut to ‘keep up’ with its intense brightness, leading to some bright tones looking a bit thin and washed out versus some rivals. Similarly, the picture can clip subtle shading out of bright HDR and even SDR highlights quite noticeably thanks, presumably, to its preference for presenting HDR as brightly as possible rather than tempering it to the screen’s specific brightness capabilities with serious HDR tone mapping. Between them, the intense sharpness and surprisingly potent handling of HDR leave almost all of the 50UK3163DB’s similarly priced rivals looking staid and dull by comparison. If you really want to get an impression of HDR’s strengths without having to spend big on a much higher end TV, the 50UK3163DB won’t let you down. In fact, the 50UK3163DB HDR image management provides it with so much brightness/light control headroom that it’s able to still make peak highlights of full-screen bright images stand proud of their already punchy surroundings, rather than the brightness just ‘flattening off’ as we might expect with a TV that has less than 500 nits to play with. So, for instance, you become impressively aware of the light gleaming off individual drops of rain during HDR footage of torrential rainfall, or of sunlight catching the corners and curves of car bodywork. As for ports, you'll find three HDMI 2.0 ports that support 4K at 60Hz. One of these ports supports eARC for connecting a sound bar. You'll also find an Ethernet, a digital optical output and a USB port so you connect a multitude of devices. The panel is also a VA type rather than an IPS type, which again usually results in better contrast (albeit at the expense of comparatively limited viewing angles). Related: What is Dolby Vision HDR? It works well, but it isn’t without some niggles. The far-field microphone on the device recognised prompts to increase or decrease the volume, but wouldn’t respond to muting the audio. Asking Alexa to change the channel created an awkward period of silence, and trying to open Netflix led to her to telling me facts about Netflix. Perhaps I just didn’t make myself clear, but there do appear to be limitations to how much you can ask of the digital assistant. Available in 43in, 49in and 55in models, the Toshiba 55UL5A63DB is aimedsquarely at TV buyers looking for a value proposition. Suppliers of services providing the Controller with technical and organizational solutions allowing to manage the Controller’s organization including entities operating communication and information systems or making available to the Controller communication and information tools (in particular suppliers of communication and information services); The 50UK3163DB’s sound, like its pictures, is pretty good for such an affordable TV. Its speakers are powerful and dynamic enough, for instance, to deliver an expansive sound capable of shifting up and down a few gears quite convincingly during the ebb and flow of a powerful action scene. The sound also projects forward and sideways from the screen quite effectively, avoiding that feeling so often heard with built-in TV audio systems that sound only seems to exist behind the screen.Another important setting you need to sort out is the HDMI Input Mode. This is very important when you are playing HDR content from external devices. You need to set it to Mode 2 (2.0). The reason for this tweak is that older devices develop compatibility issues. If you don’t sort this setting out, you may not be able to view your HDR content. The 50UK3163DB does a better job than many sets in its class of upscaling HD sources. The results look sharper than HD, yet not so processed that they end up looking unnatural. Provided, anyway, that you keep the set’s motion processing and noise reduction systems set to low or turned off entirely. That’s why we wrote this article. We have done the work on your behalf and we will show you the best picture settings for Toshiba TVs. Grab your remote control and let’s start to calibrate your TV. The UL5A sports a surprising number of HDMI inputs (four). Other connections include an optical out, LAN, satellite and aerial antenna, two USBs and, interestingly, VGA and component connections. While it makes sense to include the latter for those who wish to connect a PC or other legacy equipment, it does feel antiquated.
