Aside from the rhyming nature of the book, the bright colors and details are engaging and keep the questions flowing, we play a fun “I spy” at the end picking out our new favorite pup!Follow the bouncy rhyme as it weaves its way through an array of hilarious hounds (from petted pugs to silly sausage dogs) and find out.

It reads with a really nice rhythm and no matter how many times we read it (and there have been many, many times) I have never become bored of it. The book has a ‘spot the lost dog’ on each page which my two year old loves to find to keep him entertained too. in this clever yet accessible picture book are all doing something different, whether it’s doing as they’re told, yapping, saving someone in the snow, flapping their jowls in the wind out of a car window or pulling a sleigh.

We follow the bouncy rhyme through the book, where dogs caper, beg and dash through a brilliant variety of scenes, mostly organised in clear horizontal panels across the pages, with a selection of full-page illustrations, too.

It's looking a bit battered after being read so much but considering it's been used by a toddler it is still readable and loved a year or so later. My daughter has learnt most of the book (and it’s not a short book) off by heart and can join in with me or retell it to her brother. It’s a firm family favourite and I even bought another 100 book from the same author, which is equally entertaining. Seuss book- there is no plot or storyline, but my kids (ages 7,5,3) do not mind and find it comical and entertaining to read everytime we pick it up *which has been many a time now!Ideal for kids that love dogs, this is also a brilliant rhyming book with a clever, simple premise that will become a family favourite. Per the title, I assumed it would be a counting book, but actually while it represents “100 dogs” it does not actually count them, but represents them via lyrical rhyming text much like a Dr. Written in witty verse and accompanied by colourful illustrations, this wonderful contemporary tale is great to read aloud and ideal to show young children that stories have the power to take readers on all sorts of exciting, imaginative journeys.
