About this deal

to tell you all about the strict quality control testing the Frontier ED X binoculars are put through. As with all Hawke binoculars, they're covered by a 10 year guarantee.* Measured by us amounted to 7.81 +\- 0.04 degrees and was by 0.29 of a degree narrower than stated in the specifications. A quite wide field for this class of equipment. As well as making it easier to line your eyes with the lenses, having a large ocular lens offers up several potential advantages including improved image resolution. See more on this here: Ocular lens size in Binoculars. The Frontier EDX is an outstanding binocular that delivers optical performance and ergonomics that come close to the very best binoculars on the market, yet at a fraction of their price. Hawke has crammed so much value into this binocular with its smart contemporary design, high-quality materials and superb optics. Offering tremendous value has become something of a hallmark for the Hawke brand, so that’s not entirely unexpected, but where Hawke has taken a big step forward with the EDX is in the refinement of the finished product. The EDX feels much more a premium product than any of the previous Hawke lines… including the more expensive (but now discontinued) Hawke Sapphire I reviewed previously.

Its range finding capabilities include: Distance, Rain, Hunt, Near, Horizontal Distance and Angle modes. The display brightness can be manually adjusted between 6 levels of brightness. The LRF requires a 3V CR2 battery and will automatically turn off after 15 seconds of no operation to save power. The Frontier HDX is covered by Hawkes incredible No-Fault Lifetime Warranty — which means that if your binocular is damaged or defective for whatever reason, regardless of what happened or whose fault it was, Hawke will repair or replace it free of charge, for life. It’s one of the best warranties in the industry and proof that Hawke really believes in the quality and longevity of its products. Conclusion In terms of their appearance, the eyepiece housings and the eyecups look to be identical to those used on the 8x42 Hawke Frontier ED X binoculars.

Cons: Softening around the field edges is noticeable when panning with a moving subject or scanning a large area and can be a little distracting. While the HD handles chromatic aberration admirably for a non-ED binocular, it is visible in some high contrast scenes. It's not the end of good news. The binoculars look very sturdy, with their magnesium chassis. It is completely waterproof and, at the same time, it is supposed to weigh just 692 grams, a very good result in the 42 mm class. The accessory kit you get is impressive, the warranty period - quite long. Inside the instrument you get low dispersion ED glass and prisms which feature phase correction and dielectric coating. All of that for a very sensible price of 400 Euro. So whilst they may not be able to compete against the larger 8x42 Frontier ED X under these adverse conditions, which is perfectly understandable due to the difference in objective lens and exit pupil size, they are certainly no pushover. The Frontier EDX is covered by Hawkes incredible No-Fault Lifetime Warranty — which means that if your binocular is damaged or defective for whatever reason, regardless of what happened or who’s fault it was, Hawke will repair or replace it free of charge, for life. It’s one of the best warranties in the industry and proof that Hawke really believes in the quality and longevity of its products. Conclusion Drip drop, drip drop. It's April, and yes, it's wet. When trying out binoculars, it can be a good idea to do so on a less than perfect day, as that's when you really start to notice the differences between binoculars. For reference,Similar to those found on most Swarovski binoculars, the design and indeed function of the eyecups used on these Hawke Frontier ED binoculars is nothing short of excellent.

As you would expect of an instrument at this level, the body on all Hawke Frontier binoculars is fully sealed making them waterproof as well as protecting them from dust. Build-wise, I find the ER feels a bit loose, though it seems to stay in place. The diopter adjustment is pretty stiff and makes adjustment hard without shaking the point of focus all over. Hawke got so much right with this binocular there really is very little to quibble about. It just feels great, performs superbly, is extremely well built, has great accessories, one of the best warranties on the market and a price that is frankly hard to believe. This is the best Hawke binocular I’ve ever used… in fact, I’d go so far as to say I’d be happy to use a pair of Frontier EDX as my main wildlife and birding binocular day in, day out. I don’t think I can give any higher accolade than that. The included instruction booklet is very typical in that it looks substantial at first, but is written in several languages. The benefits of the Extra-low Dispersion glass and first class coatings throughout are clear to see. Controlled chromatic abberation eliminates colour fringing allowing all detail to be clearly visible.
