About this deal

trials and tribulations at school, with family, friends and potential love interests, interspersed with musical interludes.

Miscommunication is one of my least favourite tropes in books but I think it fits well within the genre and this book, in particular. The music references totally did it for me and my music geek heart, and the main romance lowkey gave me butterflies because it was adorable and built on connecting through songs and it just made me happy.

She is such a likeable mid teen with the usual hang ups about herself, learning how she fits in at school, with friends, at home, discovering the complications of being attracted to someone already spoken for, and slowly becoming more confident through drama. A draggy mid part with unnecessary dialogues/scenes (think it could actually be less than 400 pages? It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. and i really enjoyed the musical accompaniment that christine wrote, it was pretty cool to listen to ellies songs as they were being written. The characters are all so multi dimensional and layered that again, no one felt like a stereotype or even like a character because they just felt like people you could know for real, which again was reminiscent of John Hughes (for the record, he is my favourite director/producer of all time, so this is a Very Big Compliment in case it is construed in a different way). Suddenly, her misfit style, her skin colour, her songwriting and all that getting lost in the music in her head seem to be okay too. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. At first i tought its not gonna be a 5-star read because i was a little judgy about the decription where it says that "Ellie likes Jess´s Boyfriend "(which is not the case at all).

She also uses the book to showcase her own talents as there is a downloadable album with tracks reflecting the chapter themes throughout the book, accessible by scanning the liberally spread QR codes. British YA can be hit or miss, often reading much younger than the ages of it's protagonists, so this was a risky purchase but the incredible printed edges on my edition persuaded me.Ross Welford introduces Time Travelling with a Tortoise, the sequel to Time Travelling with a Hamster, and a whole new time travel adventure! Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. Ellie is such a great character and I do relate to her in many ways (I listen to music non stop and I express my feelings through writing) but I couldn't really get through this book. I found the whole idea of using QR codes throughout the book to connect to Ellie's playlist absolutely genius! I also liked the supporting cast of characters that Pillainayagam has created in the book as they really enhanced the story.
