About this deal

The HBO show has earned a total of 161 Emmy nominations and 59 wins, which are the most nominations and wins of any Comedy or Drama series in Emmy history. Watching House of the Dragon last night reminded me of how great it feels to spend time in Westeros. Besides the reds and fiery moments the blue eyes of Sansa and the Whitewalkers in Season 7 are quite striking and rich too.

The steelbooks themselfs are gorgeous and I love the art on them and the season theme cutout on the inside. HBO has released the complete series on Blu-ray previously, and Seasons One and Eight have been released on 4K Ultra HD as well (you can read our review of Season One here on The Bits). While the in-episode guides may have gone, there is still one strong interactive feature on the final disc that lets you explore the history, lore, Houses and geography of Westeros. At which point I should say that while the increase in apparent detail is remarkable, the application of HDR to the picture has an even bigger impact. I’ll go more into depth down below in the extras sections, but for now I’ll tease you with both the cover of said episode guide and the last page from within it.All seventy-three episodes are included on thirty 4K Ultra HD discs, which actually do include significant special features too.

It’s a shame that this content isn’t included on the 4K set, but you should be aware that most of it is available for free viewing on YouTube (at least some of it—and actually quite a lot more—on HBO’s official Game of Thrones channel).Colors have been enriched too, but usually only to the extent that they look more natural; more like they would, in other words, if hit in the real world by the sort of increased amounts of light the HDR regrade has introduced. Great binge but inconvenienced by changing disc every couple episodes would definitely recommend streaming from NowTV if marathoning the series or to ensure that your player is within arms reach to change discs. Extras: Language(s): English, French, Castilian, German, Italian, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Hard of Hearing Subtitles: English, Italian, Subtitles: French, Latin American Spanish, Castilian, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Croatian, Greek, Hebrew, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovenian, Turkish, Complex Chinese, Korean, Thai, Interactive Menu, Screen ratio 1:1. As betrayal, lust, intrigue and supernatural forces shake the four corners of the Kingdoms, their bloody struggle for the Iron Throne will have unforeseen and far-reaching consequences.

Put all these HDR and color-expanding strengths together and you get pictures that often take on an almost painterly beauty - no matter how harrowing their content might be. As does nostalgia, and so it recently occurred to us that just over two years have passed since Game of Thrones concluded its eight year run. From the scheming South and the savage Eastern lands to the frozen North and ancient Wall that protects the realm from the mysterious darkness beyond, the powerful families of the Seven Kingdoms are locked in a battle for the Iron Throne. Some of the many Atmos moments you can expect to find within this complete series includes dragons flapping there hefty wings, flying, screaming, blowing fire and cold air downward and even landing, catapults, explosions, arrows overhead and you guessed it…my favorite saying…so much more. We just started season and it’s a long way to the “Long Night” but I can already see the huge difference! You also have to love the “stark” contrast between the sun drenched moments and those of the white winter. Available subtitles include English SDH, French, Spanish, Castilian Spanish, German, Italian (for the hearing impaired), Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Croatian, Greek, Hebrew, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovenian, Turkish, Chinese, Korean, and Thai. Each of them is vying for power, for control of the kingdom’s Iron Throne, with political intrigue, bloodletting, and betrayal a-plenty. Daylight exteriors look much more life like too - and again this enhancement is delivered sensitively enough to stop the image from looking unnaturally stretched or making dark foreground objects look like empty silhouettes. The sound is phenomenal but form what I have read is the same Dolby Atmos soundtrack that’s on the Blu-Ray edition.

It also appears that all of the “hidden Dragon Eggs” content is still included, it’s just not hidden anymore (deleted scenes and the like). That encompasses all 8 seasons of the hit HBO show that plays across 73 episodes, which equates to roughly 75 hours. Beyond Dolby Vision the 4K Ultra HD Discs also feature Dolby Atmos surround tracks plus the inclusion of over 15 hours of bonus features originally released on the 2019 Game of Thrones: The Complete Series and The Complete Collection (Limited Collector’s Edition) Blu-ray sets.

It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; and all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond.
