And what I love as well as a parent is that the book teaches about the importance of keeping in touch with the wider family as well as how great it is to go traveling but always come back home. But Sunny is starting to feel claustrophobic and decides to set off to stay with his mongoose cousins and explore the outside world. Emily Gravett's colourful yet sparse illustrations cleverly depict a bumbling bear interacting in many different and imaginative ways with the fruit mentioned in the title.

Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett is a great animal story to use in EYFS and KS1 when covering a journeys or animals topic. Sunny lives on an arid plain with his extensive and loving meerkat family; they work together, play together and together do their best to stay away from jackals! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Sunny the Meerkat lives in the Kalahari desert but one day Sunny decides to pack his bags and visit his mongoose cousins. But from the watery world of the Marsh Mongoose to the nocturnal lifestyle of the Malagasy Mongoose, Sunny just doesn’t fit in.

Each book is unique and different from the last – and each features endearing, beautifully drawn characters that touch the heart and tickle the funny bone. The pages feel quite interactive as there are postcards to lift up so it's engaging for younger readers. I was a little disappointed with the finish of the book because I had to glue several of the flaps back down before I'd even read it. This book takes you on a journey with a meerkat who is looking for a home that suits him better than his current family home.
