I'm actually not entirely sure how many volumes of this I read the first time around but I'm pretty sure it wasn't all seven.

It's like director Norman Cohen was influence by two then recent films, "MASH" and "Oh What A Lovely War", both anti war comic looks at war and what he should have done was a Carry On type of film. Spike's silliness is infectious and the book contains a winning combination of word play, self deprecating humour and social history.
