hydrating ingredients ] formulated with hyaluronic acid to help retain skin's moisture and niacinamide to help soothe skin. with cerave's patented mve ingredient-delivery technology to continually release ingredients and provide lasting hydration. Lotions are good for hairy or damaged areas of skin (such as weeping eczema – where pus is seeping out of damaged areas of skin). This is because lotions are thin and spread easily, but they're not very moisturising. Sprays Eczema can damage this barrier, making the skin unable to retain water, which makes it dry and sensitive. This contributes to chronic dry, itchy skin, which can cause eczema to flare-up or get worse.

We will continue to partner with scientists who are discovering natural ingredients that enhance the skin’s well-being, because we are mindful of our legacy of innovation. Smooth, don’t rub – do not rub products in. Instead, gently smooth them onto your skin in the same direction your hair grows. Be gentle – gently pat your skin dry after washing and apply the emollient while the skin is still damp. This helps retain moisture.

Topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs) – pimecrolimus (Elidel) and tacrolimus (Protopic) – are also prescribed for eyelid eczema. They are not steroids, so there is no risk that they will thin the skin. They are a helpful option in treating eyelid eczema. They do have some side effects, which include photosensitivity. It is important to take precautions in the sun, particularly from March to September: applying sunscreen and wearing sun protective clothing, such as a sun hat. It is a good idea to apply TCIs in the evening, as you need to leave a gap between applying a TCI and another cream, such as a sunscreen (in the case of tacrolimus, a two-hour gap is required). TCIs are initially prescribed for 6 weeks and can also be used for long-term, twice weekly maintenance treatment on two non-consecutive days (for example, on Monday and Thursday nights). It is common for TCIs to produce a burning and stinging sensation when first applied, but this usually subsides within a week. Use a clean spoon or spatula to remove emollients from a pot or tub. This reduces the risk of infections from contaminated pots. Risk of slipping Dyshidrotic eczema – also known as pompholyx, dyshidrotic eczema is usually a long-term condition that appears as small itchy blisters on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet. The symptoms typically come and go over a two-to-three-week period. Use the correct utensils – avoid putting your hands into pots of emollient cream. Instead, use a utensil to take out the right amount and replace the lid of the tub after use. Alternatively, use a pump dispenser. While there’s no cure for eczema, there are ways you can manage and reduce your symptoms to make it easier to continue with your everyday tasks. Avoiding triggers

It's especially important to regularly apply an emollient to your hands and face, as they're exposed to the elements more than any other part of your body. If your symptoms are severe, your GP may prescribe corticosteroid tablets. However, these are generally avoided as a form of chronic eczema treatment, as they carry potentially harmful side effects. Eczema skin care tips If your skin stings after using an emollient wash product and does not settle after rinsing, ask a pharmacist to recommend a different product. Using emollients with other skin treatmentsIf you or your children need to use an emollient regularly, it's a good idea to keep some in small pots or tubes at home, school or work.
