About this deal

Securing a silver medal for value and bronze medals for taste and design, Ice Breaker Pale Ale (4.5% ABV), was launched in 2019 and crafted by Greene King’s brewing apprentices. The unfiltered pale ale is bursting with fruity hop flavour. The two craft beers, launched in July last year, are a vibrant homage to Greene King’s 200 years of brewing heritage and the historical myths and legends of Bury St Edmunds, the home of the Greene King brewery, and are designed for the modern-day drinker. Combining orange peel and citrus aromas with subtle pine notes, this lager is created with yeast that is fermented at a colder temperature for a longer time, resulting in a crisp and refreshing beer that has a delicate balance of flavours.

The UK’s leading pub company, Greene King, has announced the addition of four new premium beers to its portfolio, as the brewer looks to expand into the craft beer market for 2022. The awards land just ahead of the first anniversary of the launch of the brewer’s craft beers, Level Head, a session IPA (4% ABV), and Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager (4.5% ABV), which were launched in July last year and embody Britain’s eccentric past. The Bartenders’ Brand Awards are a unique blind tasting, design and value-tested competition for spirits, wines, beers and drinks products in the UK bar industry. Flint Eye, Level Head and Ice Breaker have all been awarded medals for the taste, design and value of the beers.

OLD MASTER HEN

The brewer also announced in January that seasonals ales will be available also in cask pins of 36 pints, later this year, which will support in offering more variety on the bar and with throughput in quieter periods of the week. Greene King, leading pub retailer and brewer, has been awarded its first medals for its recently launched craft beers, Flint Eye and Level Head, and also Ice Breaker Pale Ale at the Bartenders’ Brand Awards this year. Greene King’s second new IPA offering is the limited edition 5.4% Western Zeph West Coast IPA. This cutting-edge IPA is brewed using brand-new Harlequin and Godiva hops, as well as CF184, a hop so new it doesn’t have a name yet. The awards land just ahead of the first anniversary of the launch of the brewer’s craft beers, Level Head, a session IPA (4% ABV), and Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager (4.5% ABV), which were launched in July last year.

Unlike other West Coast IPAs, Western Zeph is 100% British and brewed with English malts and hops, to create a bold, flavourful, punchy beer of medium-high body which is high in bitterness but has an underlying sweetness. The process of brewing craft beer is essentially no different to the process big name brewers use to produce beer. All beer, whether ale or lager, is brewed using four key ingredients: barley (or rye, wheat or another grain), hops, water and yeast. The main process is to extract sugars from the grains so the yeast converts it to alcohol and carbon dioxide. The flavour varies depending on the combination and type of grains, hops and yeast used, and on the quantities used. The craft and heritage of these beers are what makes them unique and different from other craft beers, as we combine our centuries worth of expertise to create distinct flavours that resonate with the modern-day craft drinker. We look forward to seeing our distribution continue to grow and more and more people enjoying Level Head and Flint Eye.”
