With one campaign taking 30+ hours from start to finish, you are getting a lot of table time before considering replaying. Then, once you do finish a campaign, there will still be lots more to explore. In our campaign, there were loads of unexplored places on the maps and character specific keywords and story cards we didn’t find. And, most prominently, I really want to see what the alternative versions of Millie are like. When I first saw the announcement video for Familiar Tales, I knew it was made for us - an absolutely perfect board game fit for our family. The fantasy elements and the storytelling both sounded amazing. It was also designed by Jerry Hawthorne and published by Plaid Hat Games - the same people who brought us family-favorite Stuffed Fables. Quite simply, I instantly knew it would be our Game of the Month very soon after it arrived - and finally that day has come! When they served witches, they were often thought to be malevolent, but when working for cunning folk they were often considered benevolent (although there was some ambiguity in both cases). The former were often categorized as demons, while the latter were more commonly thought of and described as fairies. The main purpose of familiars was to serve the witch, providing protection for them as they came into their new powers. [3] Fajareka created the card art for all the items the familiars can craft. They are an incredibly detailed and efficient artist that also works on our other game, Ashes. Fajareka lives in Indonesia and is a pleasure to work with. This means the less time between play sessions, the better. But unless your family is completely and totally entranced by the story, real life dictates it’s a hard sell to get a family around the table the 25 or so times it will take to finish the story.

When you start your adventure, your familiars will be escaping Lord Perish’s unsavory henchmen while also caring for a baby. Her information is on her card, which lists her size, and the instructions for how to carry her around. The small familiars are burdened by the babe, but fortunately Chalk can carry her with no limitations.

For me, personally, the main hurdle would be spending another 30+ hours, but if that’s not an issue, or once a bit of time has passed after the first campaign, I believe Familiar Tales has plenty of scope for replayability.
