About this deal

We were shown a full production version of the GR III by Ricoh ahead of today's launch. We've shot a gallery of sample JPEG and RAW images with the camera in street-shooting-friendly Shoreditch, London, and spent some valuable hands-on time with the GR III. Yup, the GR3 (like a lot of recent cameras) only ships with an adapter to plug your camera into the wall to charge the batteries. In all fairness the GR3 uses a USB-C for charging so it feels a bit more secure than the tiny micro usb on other cameras. Either way, it’s a a terrible solution because you can’t use your camera while you’re charging your batteries.

Despite the camera's diminutive size, the GR III now features built-in image stabilisation. It may only use a simpler,3-axis system, rather than 5-axis, but the 4 stops of shutter speed compensation that it provides will definitely prove very useful on a camera that is predominantly used held out in front of you, rather than at eye level. Megapixels Contrast and phase-detect autofocus have been combined in this Hybrid autofocus system, to create a process with high-speed recognition and precise focussing. The imaging processor on this model is the new GR ENGINE 6. It elevates the essential high image quality performance of the GR for an even greater level of detail. Faster processing makes a high pixel count image sensor and multi-level gradation in 14-bit RAW possible. This also contributes to improved responsiveness and functionality for autofocus and movie.Marketing speak aside, the kit also includes exclusive accessories, including a limited-edition hot shoe cover with the ‘GRowING’ insignia, a custom green leather camera bag and a green leather camera strap. The camera will also show custom shutdown image on the rear LCD display with the ‘GRowING’ logo. This camera is capable of producing gorgeous, highly detailed images. The 24mp sensor allows for some cropping latitude, and there is also a 35mm in-camera crop setting, which gives you a 35mm field of view at the expense of a third of the megapixels in the file. The Ricoh GR III uses a tiny DB-110 rechargeable lithium-ion battery which promises to deliver approximately 200 shots per charge, according to CIPA standards. In practice, though, we managed to take just 140 stills and shoot one very short movie clip on our first outing with the camera before the battery was exhausted, which means that you'll either have to invest in several additional batteries and/or using an external powerbank via the GR III's new USB-C port to get you through a full day's shooting. The GR III offers both wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The Wi-Fi function lets you use your smartphone

The Depth of field indicator is an equally useful function. If you set the GR III to either Manual or Aperture priority mode, and the Focus mode to Snap, Manual or Infinity, a vertical scale on the left of the LCD screen indicates the depth-of-field at the current aperture, helping to ensure sharp focus when you're not relying on the camera's auto-focus system. RAW software that supports DNG (virtually every one). It also enables 14-bit RAW files for the first time on a GR camera (the GR II had 12-bit RAW files). But we’ve been completely spoiled by cameras like the Sony A73 with it’s outstanding all-day battery life. So anything less than that feels terrible. This includes the Ricoh GR3. And just about every other camera on the market that’s not the A73. You see where I’m going with this? The case, made of unbleached sailcloth, is also included as an exclusive accessory. It comes with a leather belt that is identical to the finger strap. The sailcloth material was selected because its appearance will become richer and more attractive over the years of use.

First Impressions

The GR III has an increased maximum ISO speed of 102400, two stops more than on the GR II, and starts at ISO 100. While we wouldn't recommend shooting at ISO 102400 unless you can't avoid it, it does mean that the GR III has a range that's very usable from 100-6400. Cleverly you can also set a specific minimum shutter speed in Auto High ISO mode, as well as setting the upper limit of the ISO sensitivity. Submit a valuation request and we'll provide guide prices with no delay. Plus, we'll collect your gear from your home or work for FREE. The GR III has a brand new 24.23 megapixel APS-C sensor which Ricoh claims delivers the best image quality of any GR-series camera to date. It also enables 14-bit RAW files for the first time on a GR camera (the GR II had 12-bit RAW files). ISO Speed In-camera RAW Development, providing parameter adjustment of RAW-format images and output of JPEG-format image data

i used to get quite hung up on using the right shade and still do often go down that route. but as i have noticed the variables apply not only to the real deal the photos and the model manufactures interpretaitions of the bs colours often varying wildly from each other and even from pot to pot themselves. whilst they are a good starting point and fine for most subjects it still may not give the desired effect. Moving beyond geometry—because, yes, geometry is just the beginning—we enter into another defining element of the Argonaut custom build process layup. Whether applied to one of our proven geometries, or a geometry built for your unique body shape, riding style, and needs, layup is how we merge art and technology to yield bicycles that redefine custom.Hands down, my favorite feature of any GR camera is the Snap Focus mode. In a nutshell, Snap Focus mode lets you set a fixed focus distance and use aperture to create the amount of depth of field you need to get your subject in focus.

This is a summary of my findings after a short time with the GRIII. For a deeper dive into this aspect, have a look at DPReview‘s review. Here’s an interesting perspective on rear panel versus viewfinder composing from a friend and semi-retired pro photographer, Robert Morehead. Robert told me that since switching out all his pro DSLR gear for point and shoot cameras a few years ago, he has found himself paying closer attention to the composition on the rear panel and little to no time in cropping his images in post. shows a little noise, ISO 12800 and 25600 are quite a lot noisier but still retain saturation and fine detail, while the fastest settings of ISO 51200 and 102400 are just too noisy to use. GR IV: I'd like to see the internal memory upgraded, perhaps 16/32GB. Then remove the SD card slot to make room for other stuff (eg: perhaps a larger battery, EVF port, etc). Ricoh have included 35mm and 50mm digital crop modes, which as the names suggests simulates those focal lengths by cropping into the 24 megapixel image, producing a 15 megapixel photo and 7 megapixel photo respectively, extending the versatility of the camera. Additionally, the new optional GW-4 Wide Conversion Lens can be fitted to the GR III using the GA-1 lens adapter to provide a 21mm focal length.so fo me i find and do love to use hu163 and other official colours but i remember hu163 years ago was much darker than todays very "green" offering and i remember that the real post war birds tended to be a fair be darker probably due to the varing weathering in different locations and the year paint was applied who manufactured it different legislation permiting the use of certain paint components ever changing etc. and the conditions the paint was applied in. BTW - I don't think it was XV738, as I have photos of her in wraparound in 1978. I've got some more photos to look at since I did this document, so I'll see what edits I can make and re-publish. To have a camera this small with the highest quality, you are able to take pictures everyday and anywhere. And it was through taking pictures everyday with the GR that I developed my photographic eye. And now being comfortable with the camera, I feel that I can work with any kind of camera because I now at least have developed a personal style. With the Ricoh GR III, everything is one-handed operation and it was so easy to use that I could start with the basis principles of photography and simply document wherever I went. Over time I went from P mode to shutter and aperture priority and then completely manual because I scaffolded my learning of how to use the camera. Because of GR I was able to have some personal style and becoming more confident in street photography. if anyone else out there is looking for alternate colours and find that the official ones dont suit your tastes maybe this helps.
