About this deal

The 500GB hard disk and dual tuner are standard fare these days, but less common is the range of network features, which includes a range of internet content and DLNA streaming of media files across a home network. Identifies the video capability of the destination, and informs the source to provide a video format the destination can support.

Here is how I can reproduce the symptoms of momentary break up during the switch to active standby, the described activity on the USB ports and the described activity on the HDMI port (all of which I cannot get near reproducing when power saving is 'OFF') ...... :

HDR-2000T

I used mine with an HDMI splitter, and everytime you switched on the tv the audio on the 2000T had gone until the box was rebooted. Frankly your comments show you have little or no understanding of the issues involved in splitting a HDMI output to multiple devices with differing capabilities. My Humax 2000T Freeview has been reliable but today nothing happens when I press the stand-by button on the remote or that on top of the box. The Remote has new batteries and the power supply delivers 12V. When I use the aerial pass through I get no signal at the TV but the aerial connected direct to the TV is fine so I presume the internal psu may be faulty.

What I have noticed with power saving in standby set to off is that on wake up for a split second the LED turns blue and immediately red again. Once the 2000T released the connection the TVs own tuner would take over again and we could continue watching the programme. If you had understood this, you would have realised that in this case that the simple fix simply ensured that that the two destinations was easily fixed by ensuring that the two destination devices received the virtually universal supported digital audio codec (lpcm stereo). My unit is out of warranty so will have to open it up. Anyone have a link telling me what the fault is and the components needed? It has taken quite some time to carry out the tests as I notice that even if you set a programme to record that is some thirty minutes in the future, the HDMI port remains active even though the partial wake state doesn’t begin until 15 minutes before record time.Various suggestions were offered and I tried different HDMI cables, different leads, re-routed them etc. It was also mentioned that the Panasonic TVs HDMI auto select might be the culprit. The user interface is easy to navigate, and the EPG can display data for channels of a certain type – such as HD – or those in one of five user-definable favourites lists. You can search for shows by entering keywords or see lists of upcoming broadcasts organised by genre. Freeview+HD functionality, including automatic series recording and, for some channels, recommendations for similar shows to record, is catered for. The hdmi splitter I have worked perfectly with my Humax HB1000S and a Humax HD Fox T2 together on both a Samsung tv, and (for experimental purposes) on a Panasonic tv. I have also used my Humax Foxsat HDR with this hdmi splitter without any issues.

The problems began once I started to use the 2000T ( I already own a HDR-1000s freetime box). I noticed that every time the 2000T entered a partial wake-up state in readiness to record a programme (15 minutes prior to programme start) I would lose the TV's own tuner signal for anything between 10 and 30 seconds (blank screen). The HDMI hub I am using would show an active connection at this point. HDR-2000T is a Freeview+ box and has limited on demand services. It can however export recordings for use with other kit. (Even HD using a small programme by Raydon). It also has DLNA server and client, so you can remotely view SD recordings on other kit like smart phones and tablets. It can also replay content stored on other kit (like a PC). Additionally it has manual timers and autopadding. It does however appear to have HDMI handshake issues with some TV's. When you introduce a splitter unless both destinations report identical capability there is clearly an issue. Of course, it does all the stuff you would expect, too, and setting recordings, whether single or series, really is the proverbial child's play and the interface is always on hand should you run into recording clashes or forget (how could you?) that something was available in HD.Sound quality too, is as we’ve come to expect from this class-leading TV; switching to YouTube we play the video for Frightened Rabbit’s Get Out and enjoy as dynamic and expressive a performance as our telly speakers are capable.
