About this deal

Ensure that the surface to be coated is entirely free from fats/oils or previously applied products – for this clean trim vigorously with a 1:10 dilution of Gtechniq W2 Universal Cleaner It may take a couple applications and some elbow grease to work the product into the trim to an even finish. To be fair, I’d rather use a product that took a little work to apply but lasted than one that was super easy and washes away the first time it rains. I’m a big fan of Meguiar’s products. They’ve actually managed to create useful enthusiast grade products and make them available to everyone. It used to be if you walked into a big box store or automotive store your only options were Armorall or some no name snake oil product. Now you actually have useful options. C4 uses a covalent or chemical bond to actually become an extension of the plastic molecule it is protecting.

A quality trim restorer will do more than just dye the plastic or sit on top, both of which are superficial, temporary solutions to your problem and will wash away in the slightest rain.

About Us

Before starting ensure you have enough product for all intended trim surfaces. E.g For a Mini (30ml) you will require more product compared to a Golf (15ml) To begin the application, you will want to thoroughly clean the trim. I like using Einszett Plastic Deep Cleaner, as shown in my previous blog on this product. There are a lot of trim restorers available, some of which are temporary, and others being semi-permanent. In the case of Gtechniq C4, it is a semi-permanent trim restorer. How To Use Gtechniq C4 Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. The rear bumper guards also were in poor condition and needed some attention. These were cleaned just like all the other trim pieces before applying the coating.

Look at ceramic coating your car as it offers excellent protection against the harmful UV rays that damage your car’s trim. Why should I care? The above image is what we started with. The plastics were grey, they were faded and they looked horrid. The sun’s UV is a relentless bitch when it comes to the trim of cars from Malaysia, apparently. Work in a well ventilated area, at a temperature above 5 degrees celcius and out of direct sunlight. Wear the gloves provided Gtechniq C4 is more than just a polish though. The reason it appealed to us to test was due to the fact that, according to the blurb, “ Gtechniq C4 utilises a covalent or chemical bond to actually become an extension of the plastic molecule it’s protecting. Not to be confused with much weaker electrostatic bonds used by, amongst others, ptfe based polymers Gtechniq C4 actually swaps part of its molecular structure with the surface molecules of your car’s trim.” With a couple cars around 20 years old, I really need something that actually works on plastics. I have tried a lot of products, few have impressed and even less have lasted. Resigning myself to repeated applications of plastic treatment products, I found one I really like to use and which I find easy to use. Good thing that product has other uses because I think I will not be doing this task any longer.Strong UV absorption filter and chemical bond ensures maximum durability with a single application typically maintaining a flawless finish for up to two years! Expensive for what it is and does not come with enough application pads as stated in above review. Also spoke to G Techniq for advice on how much I would need for the entire interior of an Audi A3... guess what? I ran out. Now I have a brand spanking new looking interior but a driver side door that looks aged. That one inversion covers and covers well - I'm not being stingy. When the product is applied it is VERY obvious where you have applied it to. Once the area was covered, I flipped the pad over and worked the product over and over until it was a very thin, even coat and actually some of the gloss had removed. That seemed to be a good technique - don't overload the pad and use dry parts of the pad to wipe off excess product. For the thrifty, that excess product can be stored for a short time (less than an hour) and used as a "collective", more like a mini-hand pad to cover a larger area which I did on my white car spoiler at the end of the session. After about an hour, the product cures solid - the pads become hard and even brittle. C4 utilises a covalent or chemical bond to become an extension of the plastic molecule it's protecting. Not to be confused with much weaker electrostatic bonds used by, amongst others, ptfe based polymers, C4 swaps part of its molecular structure with the surface molecules of your car's trim. What this means is that you now have a protective coating of unparalleled durability. Unlike many trim products on the market, C4 is an exceptionally thin (circa 30nm), optically clear film which means that it does not add an unattractive gloss film to the surface instead it restores all but the most faded trim to an as new condition. You can expect approximately 2 years from a single application.
